A Professional Agent vs Internet

Finding a good insurance agent is difficult. That is not because insurance agents are difficult to find. Just google “insurance agent” or “life insurance quote” and see how many hits you receive! The fact is, most agents stay in the industry for a short period of time, or do their work as a second job for extra income. Others don’t want to bother with “small cases.”

An agent that develops a basic client relationship first, meaning actually taking the time to understand your particular situation and

needs, will serve you best in the long run. Any independent agent can provide you a spreadsheet of the so-called “lowest” quotes. Quoting you a low premium means very little because there are so many factors that go into actually receiving a low premium relative to your specific situation. Insurance companies each have their pros and cons- all of them. For example, some companies are especially harsh on people with less than ideal weight; some are more forgiving. Some insurance companies have low published rates but in practice, issue policies with those low rates relatively infrequently.

Unless your agent sells many life insurance policies from multiple insurance companies, on a full-time basis, over a career spanning years, there is no way you will know the difference. All you will typically see as a consumer and all you will be provided is a list of insurance companies with non-guaranteed quotes; of little practical use in reality. Many people learn that a random person working at a call center or a random agent that buys internet leads doesn’t work for them in the long run. A professional agent that really understands their profession can provide you the best value, and just as quickly as any anonymous source you are liable to find that starts with a google search.
